Day 16 Zalala beach - Ilha de Mozambique

Last night bars next to our camping had many parties with loud music, but we slept good, the night was so hot, we were sweating so badly that we had to take out our sheets to dry! :) we left our camp and drove to the main road through coconut plantations.

It's Christmas Day but the atmosphere is not very festive, people seem to do their daily chores. Shops, liquor stores, petrol stations are open. They are not shouting Boa Festa to us:/ also we didn't see many churches around.

The road North is good tar road.

We passed Mocuba town, there was old Catolic church, pretty big town:
River crossing:
Lots of people having their laundry day:
Washed away bridge due to floods and new bridge is being built:
Some road accidents:
As we are going more north, there are some mountains in the distance.
Mozambicans eating mangos (we learned to eat their way - bite a small hole in the mango and squeeze the mango out in your mouth:):
Soon at lunchtime the clouds started gathering around us:

As soon as we got to Nampula city, heavy rain started and streets turned into rivers:

The rain finished as soon as it started, it was a proper tropical rain: it rains waterfalls for a few minutes and that was it. Few kilometres out of the city the road was completely dry, and there were no dark clouds at all:
There is some kind of industrial activity happening around the area as we saw long new and modern train carrying supplies. That might be gas that comes from Rovuma offshore in South East of Tanzania.
Few obstacles on the road again, this time electricity cables that blocked the road:
We got to the camping next to the bridge that goes to Ilha de Mozambique, we had dinner at the campings restaurant, prawns and real potatoe chips!
This was our view tonight:
The night was very very hot and was impossible to sleep.
