Day 31 Mikadi beach - Liwale

January 9, 2016
This was our last full day in Tanzania, as we were about to drive from outskirts of Dar-Es-Salaam towards Mozambican border. When we crossed into Tanzania, we used the ferry crossing close to the sea, but now coming back we wanted to see the road that led inland of Tanzania and Mozambique and use the bridge that connects both countries and it's called Unity Bridge. In travel books it says that it is the most used border crossing between both countries. Well, we will see that! So we left our beautiful campsite and the beach:
We drove South the same road that we took coming here to Dar-Es-Salaam until the village called Nangurukuru where we turned inland and drove a road that wasn't on our map, but it seemed to us that it led to Mozambican border.
Soon the tar road stopped and we were on gravel after a long time:)
And the scenery was stunning! Trees all around us :)
As we were close to Selous Game Reserve we saw some vultures and warthogs.
Lots of burned down forests, typical African scenery:
We saw that it has been raining not long before, quite a lot of water on the roads and big trucks stuck on the roads:
Some villages we passed:
In the afternoon we arrived to the village called Liwale. Right deep into Tanzania's interior, and the place was really nice! It is not located near any major road, so there are no tourists passing, it was Tanzania at its best :) We stopped at a small hotel, there are no campings in the area, and had a nice room for 30.000 Shillings (12 Euros for both of us). So we had a walk around the town later on - boys selling cooked octopus pieces in chilli broth on the street - so we had that for the starter:) Then there were big "cinemas" on the street - looked like a barn and in there 2 big TV screens - they were watching football! The guys pay some entree fee and watched football games. Later on we went for some nice local dinner at the market, we had some chicken, rice and beans of course:) And suddenly the electricity went off... And that was so nice from the local guys to give their mobile phone to us as a torch... The people are so different in the places that are not spoiled by tourists - instead of begging and touting they make you feel welcomed. This was great end of our stay in Tanzania!
