Day 36 - 37 Nhamabwe

January 14-15, 2016
For the next two days we were enjoying the sunshine and paradise beach in Nhanabwe.
There is a building that used to be a restaurant and bar, but there is nothing happening here, people use it for camping:
The view from the restaurant:
The bar, what is left of it:
Toilets in the corner, the place has been looked after:
Tables still there:
Pathway to the restaurant:
We went for a walks on the peninsula, there was beautiful lodge where we met the owners they were from Zimbabwe, moved to Mozambique many years ago:
There were two parrots:
Swimming pool at the lodge:
So we were just enjoying and relaxing for the two days, reading books, getting hot and trying to cool ourselves in the water:) Stunning sunsets:
When it got dark, we went for a swim and there the plankton was shinning when we moved the water, it was spectacular!!!

Day 35 Buffalo Camp - Nhamabwe

January 13, 2016

This day we were going back to our favourite spot in Mozambique - Nhamabwe. We were not far from there so there was no rush. On the road again typical african scenery - overloaded vehicles, this time bus: :)
Things for sale. Around this area there was a  lot of delicious honey for sale. We are not big fans of honey usually, but this one was really good, it was pretty liquid, with a smokey flavour to it. People use smoke to get out bees and gather the honey.
Soon we arrived to Vilanculos. Nice beachy style town. Many lodges around this area. We went to garage to fix mudflap for the car, it was loose.
The streets are sandy here:
Then we went to Johnson's Bar, that is the place you can buy permit to drive on the beach to get to Nhamabwe. Otherwise you must take the road that goes through the swam.
We left Vilanculos and drove towards Nhamabwe through a very small road, most of the time the road led us through people's gardens:)
Looks like a small path rather than a road:
There were lots of bushes and thorns on the road:
And one huge thorn on our tyre! So we stopped and changed the tyre:
Next thing - the swamp! That was slip and slide drive!!!
Anyways soon we arrived at our favourite spot in Mozambique! We set up our camp, went for a walk. Close to us there was a small local bar:
The bay:
On the other side of the peninsula there is an open ocean:
Signs for the lodges that are around here:
Soon we got hungry and cooked delicious prawns that we bought in Vilanculos:
Prawns and pineapples!
So we were nicely settled and our plans were to stay here for a couple of days...

Day 34 Alto Moloque - Buffalo Camp

January 12, 2016

So we left our "hotel" and headed south, nice mountainous scenery and good roads:
 Mangoes, mangoes and mangoes everywhere:
And in our bucket, costs next to nothing and tastes really amazing:
The proper "mozambican" way to eat mangoes: bite a hole in one and of the mango and squeeze out out all the juice in your mouth, its easy to eat like this on the road - no need to cut them and no mess!
We crossed the river Zambezi the forth longest river in Africa:
 Washing day here as well:
The Caia village just next to the river:
 Typical african village scenery:
Loads of pineapples around here, and very sweet!
Handling is the place to buy beer in Mozambique, the prices are cheaper than in normal shops:
Road butchers, anybody for a steak?
Burned down busses:
Another village, yellow water cans next to the well:
Today we got a speeding ticket! There was a really bad potholed road, we had to drive 20-30 km per hour for about an hour. After that a better stretch of road started where the speed limit was 60 and guess what! Policeman in the bush! He knows where to wait. So we did 66 km/h and we were fined...
This night we stayed at Buffalo camp, we camped there, it was nice and modern lodge, there were no camping facilities as such, but we were given a chalet with hot water and shower. Here is the website of the lodge: http://www.buffalo-camp.com/
